The contest runs from December 7, 2009 to April 26, 2010. To be valid, all successfully completed application forms and supporting materials must be received electronically no later than 11:59 PM EST on Monday, April 26, 2010. Application forms become the property of the Canadian Film Centre.

ABOUT
The Reel Challenge Contest is an initiative of the Canadian Film Centre, supported by the Copyright Collective of Canada, and administered by iThentic.

AWARDS
Three prizes are to be awarded: first CDN$10,000, second CDN$2,500, third prize CDN$2,500. There is no regional allocation of prizes. Odds of winning cannot be calculated as there are no restrictions on the number of entries

CATEGORIES
All categories and genres of short film are accepted, including drama, comedy, animation, horror, sci-fi, documentary, experimental and music videos. Please note that the prizes will be awarded by the adjudicating committee to the creators whose submissions promote creators’ rights and address the importance of content protection, from a creator’s perspective, in the most compelling way, provoke the most thought and feeling in the viewer, and are considered the most engaging, imaginative and the most innovative in content and delivery.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Content of the video must promote creators’ rights and address the importance of preserving and protecting copyrighted creative works.
  • All intellectual property (copyright, music, trademarks, logos, etc) must be cleared
  • English or French or no dialogue only
  • Running time not to exceed 3 minutes
  • Only open to Canadian residents, no entries from Quebec are eligible
  • The non-exclusive worldwide rights must be available in perpetuity for use by The Copyright Collective of Canada and the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association
  • No pornographic content or extreme violence
  • Contestant must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question

SELECTION
An adjudicating committee made up of a minimum of three and a maximum of five judges from the Canadian Film Centre, the Copyright Collective of Canada and the Canadian film industry will serve to review and assess prize submissions and select prize winners. Prizes will be awarded by the adjudicating committee to the creators whose submissions promote creators’ rights and address the importance of content protection ,from a creator’s perspective, in the most compelling way, provoke the most thought and feeling in the viewer, and are considered the most engaging, imaginative and the most innovative in content and delivery.
