CONTEST RULES AND GUIDELINES
Please read and carefully consider the following rules and guidelines to the Canadian Film Centre (CFC) Copyright Collective of Canada (CCC) and Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association (CMPDA) (collectively, the Contest Administrators) The Reel Challenge Contest.
CONTEST DESCRIPTION – The contest runs from December 7, 2009 to April 26, 2010. To be valid, all successfully completed application forms and supporting materials must be received electronically no later than 11:59 PM EST on April 26, 2010. Application forms become the property of the Contest Administrators.
TO ENTER – to enter you must: i) complete the application form and submission process on-line at www.thereelchallenge.ca; and ii) upload your short film (“Content”). No purchase necessary. Any application form and supporting materials received any other way shall be destroyed and shall not be considered a valid submission to The Reel Challenge Contest.
ADJUDICATING COMMITTEE – an adjudicating committee made up of a minimum of three and a maximum of five judges from the Contest Administrators and the Canadian film industry will serve to review and assess prize submissions and select prize winners.
SELECTION CRITERIA - Prizes will be awarded by the adjudicating committee to the Content Providers whose submissions promote creators’ rights and address the importance of content protection, from a creator’s perspective, in the most compelling way, provoke the most thought and feeling in the viewer, and are considered the most engaging, imaginative and the most innovative in content and delivery. This evaluation shall be conducted at the sole discretion of the adjudicating committee, whose decisions shall be final and shall not be subject to appeal or review.
ELIGIBILITY – Contest is open to all Canadian residents, with the exception of Quebec residents, with internet access who have reached the age of majority in their province of residence at the time of entering the Contest. Employees of the Contest Administrators , and their affiliates, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter. To be declared a winner, the Content Provider must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
PRIZES – Three prizes are to be awarded: first CDN$10,000, second CDN$2,500, third prize CDN$2,500. There is no regional allocation of prizes. Odds of winning cannot be calculated as there are no restrictions on the number of entries.
AWARD – Winners will be contacted by email only by the CFC no later than May 26, 2010. Winners must claim their prize as instructed by the CFC no later than June 6, 2010. If the prize is not claimed within this period, a new winner will be chosen by the adjudicating committee. Refusal to accept the prize releases the Contest Administrators, their affiliates, directors, officers and employees of any obligation toward the winner.
SHORT FILM – Eligible submissions should be approximately sixty (60) seconds in length and must not exceed three (3) minutes.
FORMAT – Windows Media (.wmv); Audio Video Interleave (.avi); QuickTime (.mov); MPEG 1/2/4 (.mpg, .mpeg); 3rd Generation Partnership Project (.3GPP).
LANGUAGE – Eligible submissions may be in either the English or French language.
YEAR OF PRODUCTION – No earlier than January 1, 2007.
RIGHTS – The non-exclusive worldwide rights must be available in perpetuity for Use by the Contest Administrators.
COPYRIGHT – All copyright, moral rights, and rights of personality in all content, music, actors must be cleared. Failure to clear these rights will result in removal of the Content from consideration in The Reel Challenge Contest.
NO PORNOGRAPHIC CONTENT OR EXTREME VIOLENCE
NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS – Submit each film only once. Â Content Providers may submit more than one film, but they must all be different.
LIABILITY – the Contest Administrators, their affiliates as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone date, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.
PRIVACY – All personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and age is collected solely for the purposes of administering this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used the Contest Administrators and their affiliates for the stated purposes.
